Hey I used to get a lot of lake trout just around the point in this photo.  Right under the tree was a good place to catch perch.  That is the left corner of a small bay on what is now called Church Pine Lake, out of Osceola Wisconsin.  Spent 7 years swimming, fishing, boating, ice skating, and ice fishing on this lake.

 I used to swim across the lake, or row the boat across the lake, to attend events held in the church under the steeple.

  Me not bad for almost 63 years old,  I have asthma, copd and a real bad foot, and this is about 60 feet high, climbed 5 flights of stairs to get up to this point.  View was worth it.  Could see for almost 50 miles in any direction.

While I was riding in the car with my sister and going to the various cemeteries where family members are buried, I did some bird watching.  I also did see a lot through the windows of the Amtrak train I was riding in.

Falcons:  A Pair of Gyrfalcons in Northern Wisconsin. Wow was up between Spooner and Minong Wisconsin that I spotted this Pair.  some Merlin’s by the markings too.

Swans in Colorado and Northern Wisconsin  Large Black Swans,  Colorado River in Colorado, Platte River in Nebraska and in small ponds in Northern Wisconsin. Had Trouble Believing what I was seeing.  Was verified by other people.

I was looking out the hostel window and I saw all of these going against the traffic and traffic signals in Chicago.

Adventures in Travel.

Amtrak staff were lovely, warm and inviting, in spite of the problems entailed.

Due to air conditioner problems in the dining car, the train was 3 and 1/2 hours late in Sacramento, California.  We had to stop twice for track inspections and a freight train,  When we were leaving Reno, Nevada, the car stopped suddenly and we stayed there for 30 minutes.  Later, we got delayed again, due to track inspections and electrical problems on the train. So, I got to see Salt Lake City in the morning a little after sunrise, rather than evening just before sundown.   We were four hours late in Salt Lake City, Utah. About and hour and a half west of Denver, Colorado; we were stopped again, due to their being an accident in the tunnel ahead of us, and emergency vehicles were on the tracks inside the tunnel. We were delayed another hour and one half there.  We were 6 and one half hours late getting into Helper, Utah.  We were roughly 6 hours late all the way to Omaha, Nebraska.  Then, before we got to Lincoln, Nebraska; we had to stop the train in Denton, Nebraska; and wait for new engineers and conductors, lost about another 45 minutes there.  Then we lost electrical power again, and again, and again, Finally near Osceola, Iowa; the engineers had to take one of our engines out of service.  Since the Train was full, and we were now 8 hours behind schedule, everybody either missed their connecting trains; buses; or planes and room reservations.  I found the Hi-Chicago Hostel with the help of Amtrak Chicago Staff members,  Dormitory room only thing available, but room was fantastic, help even more so,  If you are ever in Chicago, and need an inexpensive place to stay, where the desk is open until 3 am, the Hi-Chicago is the place to stay.  On my return trip through Chicago, I will  Make a reservation for this place and stay here again.  This will be my NEW place to stay in Chicago every time I have an overnight layover.

Next is the suicidal cyclists here in Chicago,  In a 30 minute period, I saw 14 cyclists going the wrong way, on a oneway street.  I was surprised that no police officers ticketed them, nor that there were no accidents.  I have pictures of a couple of the cyclists that I will post later and reference to this blog.

I  have a few nice scenery pictures to post that I will do at a later date.

These were taken just before and just after the river.  The suspension Bridge in one shot is the automobile bridge.  It was visible from my window.

Also, one of the grain elevators that are common along the rivers, where the barges tie up and load.  I did not see any barges at this time.

Visiting Wausau Wisconsin.

Weather is cold and snowing again.  Unable to attend a lot of things due to the weather.  Did some photography with new camera still working on learning how it works.

Long overdue.

Didn't realize it had been so long.  Did a viewing of the Sisters Quilting Collective at the request of a friend of mine, and found their Black History month story in pictures, fascinating.  Check them Out.  Especially their program at the Crocker Art Museum
 

Long times between posts.

Been having trouble catching the time to come back and do some posting.  Have been busy with work and outreach events.

Been busy with work and home life.  Illness has struck upon occassion as well.  My mother is home from the Rehab Center and is recovering nicely from a stroke.  My nephew is down taking care of her right now.  I am not sure who is having the most fun, mom or nephew.

Post Hollidays

Still trying to recover from the holidays.

My mother has returned to St. George Utah, my son has returned to Somerset California. Things are pretty much back to normal. BUT I forgot to take pictures while they were here.

I have a bunch of photos' to send to flickr.com, just not had the time yet.

New programing at the branch has been fun and entertaining as well. Program participation slowly improving as the word gets out.

New !!

Well things have been real exciting since the last blog. Events from the state fair are on my flickr photostream. Some of the photos are self explanatory, others need no explanation. Just enjoy.

Branch is changing supervisors. So bear with us, while we change heads.

Some of the new programing is exciting. The new types of programing is also going to be interesting.

Not a lot of time for reading lately, just trying to recover from all of the excitement that has happened.

Pass in Review

flickr uploads

I have been having fun with flickr. I just uploaded some of the Photos that I took of the Program at North Sacramento Hagginwood Library. I took them on August 6th, but I had goofed, and my Camera says that they were taken on the 5th.

Captain Jack Sparrow made a visit to the Library, and read a story and entertained the children and the adults.

The photo is not all that large, but You can get the idea. I good time was had by all.

Completion of 27 things

The only thing that Ihave not done is Twitter. I do not have the time. I have had fun with some of the sights and the links that that I have discovered with the help of others.

I have reported some of the successes and failures in some of my other blogs. Mom is still trying to figure out some of the things, but she is working on it. She has learned how to retrieve some of the photos that I had sent her in earlier e-mails, and save them to a photo album. She is still trying to choose which photos to upload, and when she decides, she will call me and we work long distance to upload her photos.

She has enjoyed the learning experience and trying to follow what we are doing. I will have to send her the links again. This time, she might actually sign up to follow us.

For the cat lovers out there, I posted three photos of my Josie to "I can has cheezburger" for the LOL program.

For the dog lovers out there, I am looking for a good dog to photograph so that I can post that to "I love hot dogs" site. This is a companion site to the Iluvcheezburger.com site that is so humerous.

A group of us are still playing on "Galixiki" and having fun doing it. I have used one of the photos as wallpaper on my computer at home.

I am Still playing with Google Docs. and having fun doing it.

Decided to go to pro level on Flickr as I have been having too much fun uploading photos. Only had room for 12 more photos. Now can do unlimited.

I will be adding more photos later to blog re statefair sock program and some of my prototypes.

All I have time for now.

Review

Just finished "Dragon's Luck" by Robert Asprin this last weekend. It was good, different, and full of fairies, vampires, shape shifters, ghosts, and of coarse, the dragons, the good ones and the bad ones.

If you like dragons, read Asprin's new series about the dragons in New Orleans. This takes place after Hurricane Katrina.

Has interesting plots and sub plots, but in general, it is one of those that when you finish it, you are looking for more, and where in the world did the time go? Last time you looked it was only 8:30 pm. And when you finished it is 2:00 am.

Currently reading "Dune Heretic" by Brian Herbert, based on notes that his father started and he is finishing.

Next is the newest Pip and Flinx novel by Alan Dean Foster. The continuing saga.

Final

I know that the 27 things is officially over, but, I hope that we can continue to share thoughts and information this way.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience, and sharing it with others.

My mother is still struggling a little bit, but she hopes to link up with others who are her age range, and share her hobbies. She has always been enthusiastic about learning new things.

My sister and I will work more on the blogging with her too.

This has been a fantastic oportunity to learn more about our co workers and their hobbies. I hope that we can continue this.

More 27 things

Have gone back and worked on delicious book marks, and been having fun, trying to find all of the goodies.

Went to the web 2.0 and found some of the links. Followed somebody to Galaxiki, decided that was so much fun, that I bought a sun, named it and am collaborating with a few co-workers on establishing the solar system, and the perameters. They in turn, have passed on the information. So, who ever you are, that found that link, 1 billion thanks from those of us who followed it. May your Universe be strong.

Better news. My mother is 78 years old, and I introduced her to some of the things that we have been doing, and she has joined flickr, and is learning to upload photos. She is not sure of blogging yet, but she can do that on her yahoo account. She and my sister are also doing more blogging. She has also learned about instant messaging, and has been playing with that, too.

I will still need a dansk translater for the one that my brother-in-law sends me. He does most of his blogging about books he owns or is currently reading in Danish.

Playing on Google Docs, is a lot of fun. Most of the WORD commands work well on google docs.

Trying to get my niece's blog, to link, but still working on that. I will have to contact her again, for more updates.

The things that I have learned, perseverance. Keep working at the project untill the effect that you want is achieved. Mistakes do not matter, as long as you have learned from them.

Week 10 Already

WOW.

Where has the time gone. I still have a few things to back track on, but not many. Been playing on Google docs. and been having fun while doing that. and if I am not careful, time will get away from me.

Not planning on doing twitter. No time to maintain. Life interferes.

Have read thw web 2.0 and the Library 2.0, enjoyed thoroughly. Working on spanish language on mango, and on learning express for excell and word 2007, need more work on publishing and powerpoint.

27 things

I know I got lost a few times, but discovering the way back is so much fun. I have been working on tagging photos on flickr. Been working on rss feeds, still learning though. I have done the downloads to desk top and to mp3 player. Have read several interesting articles on the Library 2.0 and the Web 2.0. I have yet to have the time to write a full report of anything that I discovered. But, the discovery was fun too.

Have worked on the spl sandbox, but not done too much yet. Interuptions galore. Need to reboot computer at home, again, in order to have more time to devote to these blogs, and some of the other interesting things that have been happening.

I have more photos to upload to flickr, just have to have the time. Still have not figured out how to do multiple uploads of photos, but will still play at trying. ( I think that playing and/or trying is half of the fun / battle, your choice)

On Delicious.

I found it confusing. On my Computer at home, I have flagged favorites, but I found delicious difficult to try and navigate. If I flagged what I wanted, about 75% of the time, something else came up. The same with some of the rss feeds, I have tried to link my rss feeds, so that they all come to the same spot, but unfortunately, they go everyplace but. Some have even wound up on the branch's desktop or owa account, instead of my google or yahoo account.

But I did manage to get I can Cheeseburger to go to rss feeds, and in my google account at that. The humerous LOL cats are to be believed or not, your choice, but many that I have viewed, remind me too much of my siamese and my tortoishell at home. A few remind me of the cats that I had when I was younger. I have not found one that is as funny, for the dog lover in me. though, does anybody else have an Idea of where I should look.

Also, I had watched the Snowball Videos. They are fantastic. Also, review the news program and the investigative testing done, to show that the bird is really differentiating between the tempos/beats etc. It was a fascinating, instructive video. I highly recommed that all, watch that video.

Their are days, when I wish my son or my cats were as easily trained or entertained. ( My son is now 36 1/2 years old)
